Bulk Vehicle Operator (BVO)
Scope of the job:
The incumbent will monitor routes, inspect vehicles, equipment and deliver petroleum products to customers safely.
Reporting:
This job will report to Fleet Supervisor/Controller
Activities:
The following activities helps to compliment the employment contract with Gulfstream Energy and is not a conclusive set of responsibilities.
- Drivers must comply with Company HSSE policies and procedures at all times.
- Drive available fleet to transport Dangerous Goods (Petroleum/Diesel/Paraffin) to customers.
- Drivers can be expected to travel long distances over several days to meet customer requirements.
- Execute planned trip logistics and obtained necessary documents to transport goods.
- Safely load products at supply point and off load products at customers.
- Drivers need to present themselves respectfully and uphold company policies, procedures and principles.
- Follow all company and customer rules and regulations at load and discharge point.
- Follow company Route Risk Assessments and journey plans.
- Follow health and safety procedures for transporting hazardous goods.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspection of vehicle using company vehicle checklist.
- Complete trip log sheet as required by company- start time, stop time, location, kilometres travelled and any observations during the trip.
- Report all incidents, potential incidents, near misses, unsafe act and unsafe conditions.
- Follow all traffic regulations.
- Report and document all vehicle defects on daily vehicle checklist.
- Keep truck and associated equipment tidy and in good working condition, to report to Fleet Supervisor/Controller immediately if any defects observed.
- Vehicle cabs must be free of loose objects.
- Driver must ensure that all requirements required to transport hazardous goods is carried and renewed timeously. (Vehicle fire permit, MSDS, TREC Card, Bill of loading, driver’s license, PrDPdg – public driver’s permit for dangerous goods, Hazchem training certificate, driver’s medical certificate, first aid and fire-fighting certificate).
- Driver must wear required PPE at all times while on duty.
Major Challenges:
- Driving is identified as a high-risk activity.
- Drivers will be faced with: delays at supplier and delivery point; road traffic conditions, different road conditions, weather conditions and third-party road user behaviour.
- BVO’s expected to manage this challenges.
Competencies
- Matric Certificate
- A valid driver’s licence Code 14 (Heavy duty)- proper experience in Dangerous Goods transport.
- PrDPdg.
